Toolman lists high toughness and ductility, high wear resistance, very high compressive strength, very high edge stability, high grindability and very high hot hardness among the principal properties of T15.
Toolman lists T15 for broaches and reamers, end mills, gear-cutting and shaping tools, twist drills, taps, machine knives, cold forming, coining, fine blanking, stamping, powder pressing, rolling, special cutting tools and pill-punching dies. Automotive racing is also listed among its applications.
It has a maximum annealed hardness of 300 HB and a quenching-and-tempering hardness range of 65–69 HRC for T15 steel.
Toolman specifies soft annealing at 850–900°C and stress relieving at 600–700°C. Hardening includes preheating at 450–500°C and 850–900°C, followed by heating to 1210–1240°C for high hardness or 1190–1210°C for toughness. Tempering is specified at 560–580°C, with three tempering cycles at 560°C for at least one hour each.
Toolman offers T15 with 1.50% carbon, 5.00% chromium, 12.5% tungsten, 5% cobalt and 5% vanadium. Molybdenum is shown as not added in its published composition table.
Toolman offers T15 rounds from 6–405 mm, squares from listed HRA sizes between 7.2 and 40 mm and forged-annealed squares from 52–305 mm. Flats range from 5–105 mm thickness and 21–205 mm width. Toolman also states that certificates and test reports are available upon request.
