D3 / DIN 1.2080 / AISI D3 Steel Grade

Toolman Special Steels is proud to produce and offer D3 (1.2080) - a high carbon and high chromium tool steel. It has superior wear resistance and good dimensional stability with high compressive strength. It hardens with a very slight change in size. The alloy possesses very high compressive strength and is deep hardening.

After hardening at the stated temperatures, our published data shows approximately 64.5 HRC after quenching.

Our published heat-treatment data specifies:

  • Soft annealing: 810–850°C
  • Stress-relief annealing: approximately 670–720°C
  • Oil hardening: 940–970°C
  • Air hardening: 950–980°C for sections up to 30 mm

The tempering data ranges from approximately 63.5 HRC at 100°C to 47 HRC at 600°C.

Our D3 / DIN 1.2080 chemistry includes:

  • Carbon: 2.00–2.35%
  • Chromium: 11.00–13.50%
  • Silicon: 0.10–0.60%
  • Manganese: 0.10–0.60%
  • Vanadium: 1.00%

Phosphorus and sulphur are specified at 0.03%.
