HEAT TREATMENT AND PROCESSES

Heat treatment

Process Details
Soft Annealing Heat to 780-820°C, cool slowly in furnace. Maximum Brinell hardness: 255.
Stress Relieving Heat to 600-650°C, hold for 1 hour, followed by air cooling. Reduces distortion during heat treatment.
Hardening Heat to 1170-1220°C, followed by oil or air quenching, or warm bath (550-220°C).
Tempering Temper at 520-550°C, at least twice for at least 62 HRC.

Good machinability, high wear resistance, moderate toughness, hot hardness and easy grindability are among the principal properties of ABC III. The combination supports machining, finishing and tool production where wear resistance and impact loading both need to be considered.

ABC III has applications in the metal-plating sector, long saw blades and blades used for wood machining. Its product description specifically positions the grade for tools exposed to impact and bump loading.

A maximum annealed hardness of 255 HBW and a minimum quenching-and-tempering hardness of 62 HRC. Its heat-treatment guidance specifies tempering at 520–550°C at least twice to achieve at least 62 HRC.
